Boy Scouts Contribute to FOM Youth

The recent barbeque fundraiser held by Fishers' Boy Scout troop was a huge success. The troop sold over $12,000 of briskets and ribs with almost half of those sales coming from FOM members. The troop committed to tithe 10% of their profits, which resulted in a contribution from the scouts to FOM of $423.10. This money will be directed to be used by the FOM youth in their mini-mission trip to League City where they will build Homes4Haiti. Thanks Boy Scouts!

Kingdom Quest will be donating our offerings from January and February to help the children in Haiti recover from the devasting earthquake. We present our offerings every Sunday during our large group opening.

The Kindgom Quest Kids generously donated $221.25 to help the children of Haiti.

19 Stephen Ministers to be Commissioned This Week!

Next Sunday at both services we will commission our new Stephen Ministers. These very gifted people will begin in our congregation the gift of caring ministry to those who are grieving or otherwise in need. They have answered a special call to use their gifts to follow in Jesus’ caring footsteps. As we commission these new Stephen Ministers next Sunday, let us celebrate the completion of their training for this ministry and thank God for their generous response to his call, keeping the success of their ministry always in our prayers.

New Member Discovery Class

February 18th, 25th, & March 4^th

7:00 – 8:30 PM

We would like to invite you to discover more about our God, Fishers of Men Lutheran Church, and maybe more about yourself. For three Thursday evenings, February 18, 25 and March 4^th, we will be offering our next Discovery Classes upstairs in room 208. These sessions help us learn how we strive to live in a faith relationship with God, as individuals, and as His church family.

For those that have been worshiping with us, are members of a sister Lutheran Church and wish to transfer membership, please come to the class on Thursday, March 4^th. Stephen Ministry Comissioning

Little Fishers Registration

We are so excited to be preparing for the next year of classes! Registration started last week (January 25) for all church families and started this week (February 1) for all school families. February 16 is the beginning of open registration for all folks new to Little Fishers, so please pass the word along to anyone with a 2 - 4 year-old. We love ALL the little children!

Also, if you would like to support Little Fishers, but don't have a school-aged child, we will be selling Entertainment Books for the low low price of $10 (that's half off!) between services in the new building gathering area. Look for our table!

UPDATE: New Way to help Haiti!

Our Middle School & High School students will be building small homes for the people of Haiti over Spring Break down in League City. Each home costs $600 to build, pack, and ship over to Haiti. If you would like to make a donation towards this cause, you can write a check to Fishers of Men and put "Homes4Haiti" in the memo line!

Also, any adults who would be interested in a mission opportunity like this, talk to Brett Bortnem because we are looking to organize a couple in the coming months!

Many people are asking how we can help meet needs after the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti. The following are three places you can give financially and know that these organizations currently have people and experience in Haiti. Giving to any of these three ministries can make a difference immediately in the name of Jesus!

The Florida-Georgia District of The LCMS, Project Haiti

Pastor Jerry McNamara served with a two Haitian pastors in Lake Worth, FL, and knows that the folks there still have active connections that can make an immediate impact. Visit their website for more info, or click this link to donate online.

The Real Hope For Haiti Rescue Center

A rescue center feeding housing, and caring for about 60 orphans (pictured; they are sleeping outside now), founded by one Christian family in the mid-90's. Their site will give you hope even as it shows the urgent needs. You can mail donation checks to this address: REAL HOPE FOR HAITI, PO Box 23, Elwood, IN 46036.

But the need is so urgent, consider a Paypal donation right on their website here!

The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS), Disaster Relief Fund.

Donate online and the aid will go to missionaries and organizations on the ground now.

Happy New Year from Little Fishers! We just had a few pieces of news to share with any parents that might be reading!
VIP Volunteer Organization will be having a very important meeting on 1/13 and 1/14 at 10:00am. Preschool will be closed on Monday, January 18 in observation of MLK Day. Also, on 1/25 & 1/26, the Reptile Lady will visit school! This is sure to be a fun event!

Financial Stewardship Information

Financial Stewardship Information
Beginning in 2009, the Financial Stewardship team will begin publishing our congregation’s financial results on a monthly basis. Our intent is to keep our members apprised of the financial progress and health of FOMLC.

We will “publish” this financial information using three different venues.
Posting in the Narthex (bulletin board)
Posting to the FOM website
Periodic financial “Town Hall” meetings open to all members

The postings will include a monthly financial summary along with various monthly graphics of Contributions, Expenses and Attendance.

Your Parish Leadership Team (PLT) has the fiduciary responsibility to utilize the congregation’s financial resources in accordance each year’s approved Budget. These leaders monitor the financial results each month, make decisions and adjust spending as is required to stay within the budgetary boundaries. The Lord has blessed our congregation with a wealth of financial resources; it is the duty of each member to add their time and talents in order to make the best use of these financial resources.

You do not need to know how to read music. You just have to have a love for team ministry and singing for the Lord.
